Gartner: about 80% of businesses using cloud computing, such as the 'private cloud'

It sounds almost ominous when Gartner characterized the digital age as a convergence, or nexus of forces marking the turning point of companies relinquishing their reliance on their IT infrastructures to embrace four big trends Gartner refers to as the cloud, mobile, social and information.

Businesses adopting the use of cloud services.

Close to 80% of today’s businesses are benefiting from the use of the private cloud. What’s more, about the same percentage of businesses are using the different options offered through SaaS (software as a service).

As such, Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2015 offers a cloud computing option, from mobile access to real-time data shared across multiple departments for more effective decision-making.

Mobile connection in 2016.

It’s almost a given that the workplace is alive with personal smartphones. In fact, Gartner predicts that more than two-thirds of the workplace will own a smartphone: 40% will be mobile, owing to the demand for more personalized experiences as well as a ‘desktop’ for the remote office member, further fueling the adoption of cloud computing.

Furthermore, Gartner predicts that by 2017 the predominate devices will be tablets, or hybrid units, with about 20% of sales forces going for iPads as their choice of platforms.

The driving force behind the cloud.

Using a browser to access applications to carry out business functions, as well as a “native app,” provides a seamless integration of from device to device, be it tablet, smartphone or desktop PC.

The biggest factor behind this trend is the cost savings to IT departments: few personnel and more reliance on cloud providers to handle everything from software updates, security patches and storage of files and documents.
