What is Digital Transformation? And Where Do I Start?

tmc-blog-what-is-digital-transformation-and-where-do-i-start

Digital transformation isn't just another buzzword making its way throughout technology circles. It's a paradigm shift in the way organizations should ready themselves to meet the changing business and marketing requirements in their respective industries. Understanding the definition of digital transformation, designing a plan for it, and then executing that plan, will create a solid foundation from which organizations will be able to achieve flexibility, agility, and a preparedness for growth.

What is Digital Transformation?

Digital Transformation is the fundamental reimagining of how firms do business. The transformation goes beyond defining a business as a conglomeration of traditional roles such as marketing, customer service, sales, etc. The core transformation begins and ends with defining how successfully an organization interacts and engages with their customers through the support of a comprehensive set of digital resources. Employing these digital resources will encompass modifying existing and/or creating all new customer experiences, business processes, and perhaps even transforming an organization's corporate culture.

Why Does My Firm Need Digital Transformation?

When technology was first introduced, it didn't take much to convince business owners that automating their extensive list of business processes was far superior to their former methods such as handwritten ledgers and customer information jotted down on sticky notes. They were able to easily recognize the incredible power behind mass technological automation.

In the same vein, today's organizations that are able to capture the astuteness of building and incorporating digital cohesiveness, are much better poised for growth than those companies still stuck with disparate technologies that struggle to "speak" and work with each other.

So the question every organization must ask themselves is, "Do we want to be one of the first in our field to prepare for everything that digital transformation has to offer, or do we want to get left behind, becoming further mired in a technological swamp that sometimes causes more headaches than it solves?"

Where Do I Start my Digital Transformation?

It's understandably unrealistic that a company whose primary business is something other than technology, would be able to independently transform their own organization. This is why every successful digital transformation begins with partnering with a technology advisor that understands the following

  • All aspects of running a business.
  • The issues associated with traditional, disparate software technologies.
  • Most importantly, how to cohesively marry all the disparate parts through implementation of a set of digitally (transformative) technologies.

Where Do We Start the Digital Transformation?

Analysis — Here at Technology Management Concepts, we start with offering our clients access to Microsoft's world-renowned business solution technologies. Those clients who want to take the first step in digitally transforming their organization are invited to take part in our free Business Process Review. A business process review conducted by one of our expert advisors can review and address areas such as

  • Risk management.
  • Project cost budgeting.
  • Defining the scope of implementation.
  • Establishing process flow details.
  • Creating a detailed work instruction for a holistic view.
  • Developing a comprehensive plan for continuous process improvement.

Making the First Move — We understand that while organizations may be very motivated to digitally transform their business, they must still successfully run their business every day. This is why undergoing a successful digital transformation is likely to take place in measured increments. For those companies who already have an email solution and other business-related software apps, we may suggest they begin their transformation by hosting these solutions on the Microsoft Azure cloud. Another common increment is to migrate a company's Office 365 apps to Microsoft 365, often starting with their email solution.

By breaking down the entire transformation into measured increments, firms can take advantage of an expanded offering of more technological opportunities while still focusing on what they do best, which is offering premier products and/or services to their customers.
